Apnea is known to be the cessation of breathing for a couple of seconds in your sleep. It is common to a person who snores. The pauses of breathing can occur 5 to 30 times or more an hour. This is considered as one of the sleeping disorders. In fact the person who has apnea while asleep can barely notice having cessation of breath.
There are classifications of apnea and the most common is obstructive sleep apnea. While sleeping the muscles of the whole body relax and more often it also includes the airway muscles which collapse when asleep and ends up to having obstruction of breathing which brings about apnea. A medical observation is that while in the episodes of apnea there is an alteration of respiration and blood oxygen flow. For mild sleep apnea, treatment might not be important, but for chronic severe obstructive sleep apnea, treatment may be needed to prevent low blood oxygen flow. Obstructive sleep apnea usually happens in people who are overweight but it may happen to everyone as well.
The less common type of sleep apnea is central sleep apnea. This can happen if the area of the brain which controls breathing fails to send the correct signals to the breathing muscles and can cause cessation of breathing for brief periods. Although it can occur alone, central sleep apnea usually occurs with obstructive sleep apnea. In central sleep apnea, snoring isn’t usually observed.
There are a couple of established remedies to avoid snoring and thus preventing sleep apnea as well. But the most common non-invasive remedy is the sleep apnea pillow which is made especially for people who snore. This is sometimes called the non-invasive “snoring aid.” The sleep apnea pillow averts the person to roll on his back since snoring can be easily detected when a person sleeps on his back. The neck is supported by this pillow and it also keeps the person on his side which decreases the air passage blockage and minimizing in turn the snoring and eventually decreasing sleep apnea possibilities as well.
The sleep apnea pillow has different kinds and they all give comfort while the person is asleep and most significant of all, it helps to stop snoring. There are many colors and sizes to choose from but the most common of which is white. It comes in various filling materials, but the covers should be made of anti allergy material.
